Answer questions to fill the bar! ๐ŸŽ‰
๐Ÿ”ค Lesson 1 โ€” The Musical Alphabet
๐Ÿฑ
Mochi says: Music only uses seven letters โ€” A B C D E F G โ€” then it starts again! No H, no I. Round and round like a merry-go-round! ๐ŸŽ

Say them going up: A B C D E F G โ†’ back to A. And going down: G F E D C B A. Every note on the stave is one of these seven letters.

๐ŸŒˆ Going up the stave, the letters go forward (Aโ†’Bโ†’Cโ€ฆ). Going down, they go backward (Cโ†’Bโ†’Aโ€ฆ).
๐Ÿผ Bao's tip: A note sits either on a line (the line goes through its tummy) or in a space (it floats between two lines). Lines and spaces each have their own letters!
๐ŸŽผ Lesson 2 โ€” Reading the Treble Clef
๐Ÿผ
Bao says: The swirly treble clef ๐ŸŽผ is also called the G clef โ€” its curl hugs the line for G! High notes live here. ๐ŸŽˆ

Here is a note sitting on the second line โ€” the one the clef curls around. That's G!

Line notes (bottom โ†’ top)

E G B D FEvery Good Boy Deserves Fun

Space notes (bottom โ†’ top)

F A C Espells FACE! ๐Ÿ˜บ
๐Ÿฑ Watch out: Middle C sits just below the treble stave on its own little ledger line:
๐ŸŽต Lesson 3 โ€” Reading the Bass Clef
๐Ÿฑ
Mochi says: The bass clef is the F clef โ€” its two dots hug the F line! Low, rumbly notes live down here. ๐Ÿป

This note is on the bottom line of the bass stave. That's G!

Line notes (bottom โ†’ top)

G B D F AGood Boys Deserve Fun Always

Space notes (bottom โ†’ top)

A C E GAll Cows Eat Grass ๐Ÿ„
๐Ÿผ Watch out: Middle C sits just above the bass stave on its own ledger line โ€” the same C from the treble clef, holding hands in the middle!
๐ŸŽฏ Lesson 4 โ€” Sharps, Flats & the Golden Rule
๐Ÿผ
Bao says: Accidentals are little signs that change a note's pitch. This is where lots of people slip up โ€” let's get it right! โœจ

The signs you need for Grade 5:

Sharp (#) โ€” makes a note higher by a semitone.
Flat (b) โ€” makes a note lower by a semitone.
Natural โ€” cancels a sharp or flat.
Double sharp (written x) โ€” up by TWO semitones.
Double flat (written bb) โ€” down by TWO semitones.

โญ GOLDEN RULE #1 โ€” On the stave, the accidental sign always goes BEFORE the note (to its left), sitting on the same line or space. Never after it! โญ

โœ… Correct โ€” sign on the left, then the note:

โญ GOLDEN RULE #2 โ€” When we write the name, the letter comes first, then the accidental: F# (say "F sharp"), Bb (say "B flat"). โญ
๐Ÿฑ Easy way to remember: On the stave the sign leads the way (it's on the left, like it's pulling the note along ๐Ÿพ). In the name the letter is the boss and comes first (F#, not #F).
